Head of the Government of Georgia has come up with the idea to establish a new recreational park in the territory of Tbilisi Zoo and Vere river valley in memory of the victims of the June 13 flash flood.

Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said June 13 was a "tragic day” that united all citizens of Georgia. Furthermore, the following two days had seen thousands of volunteers unite to clear the devastated area in central Tbilisi.

These people were "witnesses and participants” of an incredible example of solidarity.

I believe that there should be a place in Tbilisi that preserves the memory of our fellow citizens who tragically died, which also reminds us that strength is in unity,” said Garibashvili.
This will be a Solidarity Park; a symbol of our unity, devotion and support to each other. And I know the public has the same request,” he said.

Tbilisi Zoo was virtually demolished in the weekend flood. Today Tbilisi Mayor Davit Narmania announced a new zoo will be built near Tbilisi Sea. He did not specify when this would happen but there was "no dispute” that the surviving zoo animals need a new home, as their old one was destroyed three days ago.
