Members of Parliament of Georgia are meeting in Kutaisi tonight to discuss and vote on the President’s orders to involve Defence Ministry resources in the recovery works following a deadly flood in Tbilisi on June 13.
The extraordinary session will be held today at 6pm following an order by the President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili, which he is entitled to do according to the Constitution of Georgia.
At the extraordinary session, deputies will discuss and vote on Margvelashvili’s decision to use different subdivisions of the Ministry of Defence in the flooding clean-up.
The special meeting will be held in the Parliament building in Kutaisi.
Yesterday Margvelashvili, as President and the Commander-in-Chief of the country, ordered military forces to get involved in rescue operations.
The military servicemen of the Engineer Brigade and Army Logistics Provision Command of the Georgian Armed Forces carried out rescue and recovery works in the territory near Tbilisi Zoo, as well as in the Vake-Saburtalo area in central Tbilisi.
Special machinery and equipment of the Army Logistics Provision Command was utilised on the ground.
The military units also cleaned up debris caused by a landslide on Tskneti-Akhaldaba road near Tbilisi.
