Georgia ready to deepen cooperation with Iran

Georgia and Iran are looking to enhance bilateral ties in the transport, energy and manufacturing sectors.

Georgia’s Economy Minister and Vice Premier Giorgi Kvirikashvili revealed the bilateral cooperation plan while paying an official visit to Iran.

Kvirikashvili’s two-day visit to Iran started on May 18.

The Georgian Minister’s official schedule noted he would hold several official meetings abroad. Yesterday he met Iran’s Foreign Minister and also with Iran’s Oil Minister.

The sides discussed Georgia-Iran economic and foreign relations and remarked the countries had "big potential” to deepen the cooperation in various sectors.

Today Kvirikashvili will meet Iran’s First Vice President and other country officials.

Within the visit, Kvirikashvili will participate in the Fifth Session of the Joint Commission of Cooperation between Georgia and Iran. At the end of the session the sides will sign a Memorandum of Understanding.

This will be the first session between Georgia and Iran in the last ten years.

The Georgian official is due to depart Iran later today.
