Photos showing 19th Century Caucasian women displayed in Tbilisi

A photo exhibition showcasing the everyday life of Caucasian women at the end of the 19th Century is now on display in the Georgian capital Tbilisi.

A collection of photos by famous photographer Konstantin Zanis describing the daily life of Caucasian women, the clothes they wore and the various activities they took part in are on are now on display at the State Silk Museum. The exhibition will last until May 23.

Today, on the opening day of the Woman with Silk exhibition, visitors will have an opportunity to become part of the exhibition with the help of photographer Mikheil Chkhikvadze in an arranged photo studio.

A Museum spokesperson said this exhibition was a result of five year's of research, which was still unfinished.

"There are plans to reopen the photo laboratory of Zanis in the attic of the museum building and to return it back to its original function," said the Museum representative.

On International Museum Day on May 18, the State Silk Museum will open its doors to the public and allow them to see current exhibitions from midday to midnight for free.
