The President of Georgia has visited Georgian soldiers in Afghanistan and awarded honours to soldiers, including one who risked his own life to save his comrade.
Yesterday, Giorgi Margvelashvili and other Georgian officials went to the Helmand province, met local soldiers and reviewed the operative management centre.
Georgian delegation member Irakli Sesiashvili, who is head of the Parliamentary Security Committee, said: "Our soldiers are brave and they are given the highest rating by the American generals. They say Georgian soldiers are one of the most powerful.”
While in Afghanistan, President Margvelashvili awarded Georgian and American soldiers with honours, among them a soldier who rescued his comrade while risking his own life.
President Margvelashvili and other Georgian delegation members also reviewed the work of the operative management centre.
Margvelashvili was accompanied to Afghanistan by his partner Maka Chichua, the head of the Security Council Irina Imerlishvili and head of the President’s Administration Lasha Abashidze. The country’s Chief of General Staff of the Georgian Armed ForcesVakhtang Kapanadze, Deputy Minister of Defense Irakli Gegechkori, and head of the Parliamentary Security Committee Irakli Sesiashvili also attended, announced the President’s Administration.
