The Government of Georgia has allocated 2.4 million GEL for construction of 81 new medical centres in Georgia.
The small clinics will be equip with state-of-the-art facilities and will be funded by the Municipal Development Fund.
The small centres will operate at international standards and will measure 31-33 square metres in size. The buildings will be prepared using specialist techniques and will be equipped with two heating systems and two bathrooms, said Georgia’s Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure.
The buildings’ internal and external infrastructure will be suitable for people with disabilities and all construction equipment will be locally produced at the Lilo factory.
The new clinics will begin to be established in municipalities this week, after which they will begin to be filled with necessary equipment.
A Ministry spokesperson said the construction process of all 81 facilities was expected to be completed by September 2014.
As part of this initiative, ten new clinics will also be built in breakaway regions.
The Ministry spokesperson said local government was involved in this process.
"Particularly, local authorities will provide a designated area [for building] foundations, underground utilities, water, gas and electricity in the area to finish it,” the Ministry’s press centre stated.
The project is being jointly implemented by the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure and the Ministry of Labour, Health and Social Affairs.
