Georgia’s PM establishes commission to support football

Georgia’s Primer Minister Irakli Garibashvili is leading a group with the task of developing Georgian football.

The Government-led Commission will discuss, plan and implement future vital projects of Georgian football.

Provision for the development of the Georgian Football Commission was approved at a cabinet meeting on February 13, the country’s Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs revealed today.

Four Georgian Minister will be members of the Commission, including, Minister of Energy and famous international football legend Kakha Kaladze, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development and Vice-Premier Giorgi 

Kvirikashvili, Finance Minister Nodar Khaduri and the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs Levan Kiphiani.

The aims of the commission are:

  • To foster a five year football development plan
  • Attract private investors to increase funding for the promotion of football clubs
  • Implement Football Development Assistance Planning.
  • Plan activities for football fans and people with disabilities.
  • Preparation of the coordination work for UEFA Super Cup in 2015.
  • Promote and coordinate the UEFA European Championship under 19, which will be held Georgia in 2017.
