The Georgian Government has pledged its support to developing rugby throughout the country with a 33.6 million GEL contribution.

This significant financial donation to help boost the sport will be allocated to the Georgian Rugby Union over the next two years.

The Government confirmed the financial aid and other changes outlined in the Georgian Rugby Development Financial Aid Program today.

According to the Program, from this year the state will increase its contribution to the sport by almost 22 million GEL. This will see the allocated funds increase from 11.8 million GEL to 33.6 million GEL.

Changes will occur in financing the highest league teams where instead of receiving 100 000 in financial aid, each team will receive 400 000 GEL.

For the first time in Georgian rugby history, first tier teams will also get money from the state.

The Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs of Georgia will be in charge of spending the allocated money by giving it to the Georgian Rugby Union.
