Georgian Military praised in Afghanistan

The Georgian military has been praised for fighting terrorism and providing security in Afghanistan.

Georgias military presence in Afghanistan has contributed to the stabilization of the troubled country, senior American military officials have said.

The praise was delivered to the troops in an Orthodox Christmas ceremony, attended by senior Georgian military officials in Afghanistan

Chief of Joint Staff of Georgian Armed Forces, General-Mayor Vakhtang Kapanadze celebrated Orthodox Christmas in Afghanistan, with Georgian troops.

Georgian Deputy Defense Minister Irakli Gegechkori, Deputy Chief of Joint Staff Colonel Roman Jokhadze and vice-commander of the First Brigade Colonel Giorgi Shengelia also visited the 31st  Battalion at base Leatherneck in the Helmand province.

The leaders attended a liturgy along with soldiers in a Georgian chapel located at the base.

General-Mayor Kapanadze awarded 31st  Battalion servicemen with  "Devoted to Homeland service medals for their merit in strengthening defense capability of the country.

In Afghanistan,  Kapanadze  also met with senior American military officials, who thanked the Georgian delegation for Georgias contribution to the stabilization of Afghanistan.

The senior American military officials noted that Georgian soldiers were professionals and their work had enormous significance to the coalition.

Georgian troops are taking part in the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) operation in Afghanistan. Along with the US soldiers, they execute full-spectrum operations for six months. Their main tasks are to combat terrorism and, provide security for the population.
