Georgia’s former Prime Minister and billionaire businessman Bidzina Ivanishvili is pleased with the work of the Georgian Prosecutors' Office in relation to the court case about ex-Defence Minister David Kezerashvili.
At a press conference today, February 4, he praised the work of the Chief Prosecutor’s Office .
"You could not imagine where we were and what we have done”, Ivanishvili said.
In front of a crowd of journalists, Ivanishvili explained how the former government had worked hard to create a "perfect image” on an international scale. To do this, it had spent a lot of money promoting themselves in Europe and the United States.
"In one month it was impossible to put Kezerashvili on Interpol’s Red Notice,” he added.
People named on Interpol lists are classified into seven colours: red, blue, green, yellow, black, orange and purple. The Red Notice is the closest instrument to an international arrest warrant.
The ex-PM claimed no country wanted to arrest Kezerashvili and Georgia’s current Prime Minister played an integral role in the Kezerashvili case. He claimed Garibashvili, the country’s former Minister of Internal Affairs, personally negotiated with authorities of each state and used his French connections to influence authorities to arrest Kezerashvili.
"Now you have asked me if I am satisfied by the outcome of Kezerashvili’s case. My answer is, of course I am,” Ivanishvili finished.
The former PM made these comments during a press conference dedicated to explaining his new Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) "Citizen”. Many times Ivanishvili deviated from the intended topic.
His NGO aimed to support Georgia's democratic and economic development process.
Yesterday, Kezerashvili was released from custody in France on the condition he must wear an electronic monitoring bracelet for six months. He was named on the Interpol wanted list before he was arrested and detained in France on October 10, 2013, in accordance with Georgia’s request.
