European Council member Johannes Hahn, who is in charge of European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations to Georgia addressed local citizens and congratulated the nation on the ratification of the EU-Georgia Association Agreement by European Parliament.
Members of European Parliament backed the AA by 490 votes in favour to 76 against, with 57 abstentions today, December 18.
Hahn believed Georgia was one of the frontrunners of the EU’s Eastern Partnership Policy (EaP).
"This Association Agreement is the result of Georgia’s European aspirations. It is your European choice; it is the interest of the European Union to promote and help built a democratic, stable and prosperous country in the region. This is of key strategic importance,” Hahn said.
