Hundreds of films from near and far will be shown at the country’s leading film festival this week in Tbilisi.
Yesterday marked the first official day of winter and the opening of the 15th annual Tbilisi International Film Festival. For one week until December 7, more than 100 films from all over the world, including Norway, Germany, Serbia, France, Italy, Romania and more, will be screened.
The event is regarded as one of the most important cultural events in Georgia, and in its 15 year history, the festival has hosted more than 700 film directors, producers, actors, film experts and documentary filmmakers.
This year the United States (US) Embassy in Tbilisi will present four American films in the festival – The Skunk by Annie Silverstein, Timelapse by Bradley King, Big Significant Things by Brian Reisberg and A Most Wanted Man by Anton Corbijn.
The Tbilisi International Film Festival is an imperative event for the Georgian cinema world and it is a valuable partner to the US Embassy in Georgia. By presenting US movies at the festival, the US Embassy hopes that Georgian society will be introduced to American culture from different angles,” the US Embassy press centre said.
At this year’s festival guests can view the range of films on show or take part in professional meetings, industry panels, master classes and retrospectives. Each of these activities actively supports the talents and creative visions of young and accomplished filmmakers, event organisers said.
