Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili has met with a delegation representing global consulting and investment company DEMETER-AWE Holdings and discussed Georgia’s agricultural sector.
The Israeli-based company representatives and the Georgian leader discussed cooperation issues in the field of agriculture as well as the results of a study DEMETER-AWE Holdings conducted on the current situation of the regions of Georgia.
The PM informed the guests about the agricultural reforms adopted by the country. He noted the leading sector in this field was viticulture, as Georgia had a vibrant wine history dating 8,000 years and supported more than 500 endemic species of grapes.
"Georgia has the greatest potential in agriculture development, including in terms of climate. Development of agriculture is crucial for the Georgian economy,” he said.
Garibashvili noted that in this regard the experience of Israel was of great value for Georgia.
"We are glad that we have the opportunity to use this prospective for strengthening cooperation between our countries," the PM said.
Before the meeting ended Garibashvili thanked his guests for attending the anniversary marking Georgia-Israel friendship.
The meeting was also attended by Georgia’s Economy Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili, Agriculture Minister Otar Danelia and head of the Economic Council Roman Tchkhenkeli.
