The work of two of Georgia’s filmmakers will reach an international audience when it goes on show at one of the top post-Soviet film festivals this month.

The KINO Film Festival promoted films from Russia and other countries which used to be part of the Soviet Union. Most of the films will be shown for the first time in Switzerland and in Europe.

Georgian movies Blind Dates and Brides will be presented at the KINO Film Festival in Geneva and Lausanne from October 10-19, 2014.

Blind Dates(Shentkhveviti Paemnebi) was Levan Koguashvilis’s second film where he takes a light-hearted, gentle look at relationships and the fear of making commitments.

He tells his tale through main protagonist Sandro, a teacher and confirmed bachelor who spends his time flirting online. He enjoyed the simplicity of not committing but things all change when he falls in love with Manana.

Meanwhile the other Georgian film to be presented at the festival was Brides (Patardzlebi). This was Tinatin Kajrishvili’s first film and it won the Audience Award at the Berlinale Film Festival in Berlin earlier this year.

The movie was a paean to unconditional love—in this case, Nutsa’s love for her jailed companion Goga. To create a loving family life, this young mother is forced to abide by the rules of the Georgian judicial system. She agrees to a shotgun wedding and her prison visits turn into an endless daily routine.

The KINO Film Festival represented the artistic diversity of a new generation of filmmakers from Russia, Armenia, Estonia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Moldova and Ukraine.
