Government evaluates new visa regulation rules

Georgian authorities are discussing ways to assist foreign people adjust to the country’s new visa regulations.

Heads of the relevant state agencies discussed the advantages and the possible shortcomings of the new visa amendments at a meeting with Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili yesterday.

From September 1, Georgia implemented new regulations for foreign citizens who wished to enter and stay in the country.

Authorities said some foreigner had said the process of adjusting to the new rules had been "painful". The PM noted the Government would consider various possibilities on how to make this process easier for them.

Georgia's Justice, Interior and Foreign Ministries were asked to pay full attention to all foreigners in order for their legal status to be included in the relevant regulations of the new law without additional costs and the law not to leave any questions unanswered.

The PM said the Georgian Government would keep monitoring the operation of the new law on "Legal Status of Aliens and Stateless Persons".
