A powerful storm is lashing western Georgia where heavy rain is causing havoc on infrastructure in Poti and Batumi.

Initial reports claim the magnitude four storm has damaged infrastructure and caused major flooding in coastal areas.

Officials said several streets were flooded as a result of the two-day heavy rainstorm. This caused significant problems for traffic.

At the coastline, red flags have been raised meaning all boating crafts and people are prohibited from entering the sea, for safety reasons

The weather caused a landslide near the Chakvi tunnel however this did not hinder traffic, officials said.

The heavy rain is forecast to remain in the area until tomorrow.
