Georgia-France discuss defence partnership

Georgian Defence Minister Irakli Alasania is scheduled to meet his French colleagues later today.

Defence Minister of Georgia Irakli Alasania is on a working visit to France to discuss how the two countries can work together in a defensive partnership.

Alasania is scheduled to hold a meeting with his French counterpart Jean-Yves Le Drian at the Ministry of Defence of France later today.

The two Ministers will discuss details of bilateral cooperation in the defence sphere. The NATO-led international mission in Afghanistan and European Union-led mission in the Central Africa Republic, as well as upcoming NATO Summit in Wales will be some of the main topics of the meeting.

Within Alasania’s two-day long visit to France, a meeting with the director for Strategic Affairs of the Ministry of Defence of France Philippe Errera is also scheduled.

Minister Alasania was accompanied by Chief of General Staff of the Georgian Armed Forces Major General Vakhtang Kapanadze and Deputy Defence Minister Varlam Avaliani.

The Georgian delegation are expected to end their working visit to France on August 30.
