Georgian Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II is praying for a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Ukraine and is urging people in Georgia and abroad to do the same.

"We and the whole world are watching recent events in Kiev and we are deeply concerned,” the religious leader said today.

"The country is going through a difficult period and tensions may reach a critical point. I regret that there have been a considerable number of victims and a serious number of injured.”

"We offer our prayers to God that the process won’t lead to bloody confrontation and the events don’t become unruly,” he said in a statement.

He asked God to bless Ukraine and its people and invited people all over the world to pray to Andrew the Apostle, Saint Vladimir and Olga to let them peacefully solve the current problems.
