Georgia’s ex-Defence Minister is set to appear in a French court of law today, where authorities will discuss his extradition.

Former Minister Davit Kezerashvili was arrested in France in October last year at the request of Georgian authorities.

Kezerashvili’s lawyer did not believe a decision would be made today.

"I think a decision will not be made during the trial today because the case is not at this stage yet. However, this is my opinion but anything can happen,” attorney Shota Mindeli said.

He said local advocates had defended Kezerashvili’s interests in the French court.

Meanwhile, Kezerashvili is wanted in Georgia on multiple criminal charges including corruption. He is accused of bribe-taking, violations of Georgias rules for transportation of especially large amount of movable items, and illegal money laundering committed by a group that was accompanied by acquiring a large amount of income. David Kezerashvili also faces charges of alienating TV Imedi in 2008.

He has also been accused of protecting a scheme that illegally smuggled alcohol.
