The Georgian men’s national basketball team is one step closer to competing in one of Europe’s top basketball competitions - EuroBasket 2015 - after defeating Hungary in the latest qualifying match.
Georgia celebrated a confident victory and gained a 20-point advantage over Hungary, with a final score of 79-59.
The Czech Republic lead the group with four wins and one defeat while Georgia and Hungary are tied in second place with three victories and two defeats each, however the Georgian’s hold the head-to-head advantage over the Hungarians. At this stage Portugal placed last in the group.
In yesterday’s match Georgia had the upper hand for three quarters of the match however it was not all plain sailing for the Georgian side.
The highest scorer of the Georgian team was Tornike Shengelia with 26 points however he picked up a serious knock and was forced to leave the court before the game had ended. He is due to undergo medical tests to determine the extent of his injury.
Georgia’s second highest scorer was the team’s captain Zaza Pachulia, who scored 17 points.
The Georgian team's final match of the EuroBasket 2015 qualifier will be against Portugal and held on August 27 at the Tbilisi Sport’s Palace. If the Georgian team wins, they will compete in EuroBasket 2015 competition.
