Georgia’s Prime Minister has spoken out on a top international news channel about Georgia’s challenge to move closer to the European Union (EU) while normalising relations with Russia.
Leading CNN journalist Richard Quest invited Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili to appear on the CNN television program ‘Quest Means Business’.
During the interview Garibashvili was asked how challenging it was to have a constructive relationship with Russia, to have a European aspiration and at the same time to keep the Georgian population on his side.
I am privileged. I am honoured to lead my country, to govern this country and to navigate my nation through this difficult moment. But I am confident in this path and we will succeed, Garibashvili emphasized.
The main focus of the interview saw Garibashvili discuss Georgia’s regional policy and the country's European future.
He highlighted main messages – ensuring Georgia has constructive dialogue and a technical relationship with Russia and European Union membership is Georgia’s "final goal”.
We already set an example that one the one hand we are moving to the European Union (EU) and this process became irreversible by signing the Association Agreement (AA) with the EU on June 27 and the same time we are seeking to have normal, cooperative relationship with Russia.
