Russia claims 11km of Georgian territory

Georgian Foreign Minister Maia Panjikidze urged Russia that if they violated Georgian territory, severe consequences would follow.

The Foreign Minister made this comment after the Russians shifting the boundary zone by 11 kilometers on the Psou River, near Gagra in the town of Abkhazia - a breakaway territory of Georgia.

It is believed this was done because of the Sochi Winter Olympic Games.

According to the resolution of the de-facto government of Abkhazia, the boundary zone will impede on Georgian territory until March 21, when the Olympic Games are over.

Georgian Foreign Minister Maia Panjikidze stated that if this land continued to be invaded after the Sochi Olympic Games, the Georgian Governments reaction would be "quite severe.

"We will discuss this problem at the Geneva Talks in March. The barbed wire installation was always major topic at the Geneva discussions. This was a real violation of Georgian territory, Panjikidze stated.

Today the Georgian Minister of Foreign Affairs held meeting with the Geneva Discussions chairman Antti Turunen at Tbilisi.

During the bilateral talks, the sides debated issues expected to be discussed at the 27th round of Geneva Talks, scheduled to take place on March 26.
