The runoff elections of Georgia’s June 15 municipal elections will be held on July 12.
The Central Election Commission (CEC) last night announced it had reached a final decision on when the second round of elections will be held.
The CEC decided on July 12 the runoffs for Mayors and local governors - gamgebelis will be held in 13 municipalities and eight cities across the country.
This proposal was supported by seven CEC members and opposed by five at last night’s CEC meeting.
Two candidates - Davit Narmania of the Georgian Dream and Nika Melia of United National Movement (UNM) - will compete in the Tbilisi Mayoral runoff.
At yesterday's meeting, the CEC officially approved the results of the first round. According to the final announcement, the ruling Georgian Dream coalition gained 50.8 percent of votes, UNM gained 22.5 percent, and Nino Burjanadze - United Opposition got 10.2 percent.
The CEC also said the first sessions of the newly elected City Councils – sakrebulos would be held on July 14 and August 2.
