The Romanian Government has approved three Bills at a special Governmental session about ratifying the Association Agreement (AA) between the European Union (EU) and Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.

The EU signed the important trade documents with Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine on June 27.

Romanian Prime Minister Viktor Ponto earlier promised Romania would be the first country to ratify the AA once it had been signed.

"We have made the choice that once the EU signs the AA with these three countries in Brussels, we will be the first country to ratify this agreement. This is indeed a historic moment and a concrete step these countries have taken towards the EU,” he said.

The PM also said the Romanian Parliament will be able to adopt the law at this week’s special session, which will be published upon receipt.

All 28 EU countries must ratify the Association Agreement before it can fully come into effect.
