Final turnout: Almost 1.5 million vote in municipal elections

Almost 1.5 million voters throughout the country took part in the 2014 municipal elections today.

Latest data released by the Central Election Commission (CEC) stated 1,485,372 people, or 43.3 percent of eligible voters, voted for their favourite candidate in the self-government elections.

There were 3,429,748 Georgian citizens registered to vote in today’s election. Slightly more than 1.9 million registered voters (56.7 percent) did not take part in today’s election.

The highest number of voters were recorded in western Georgia’s Racha-Lechkumi region (61.2 percent), followed by Guria (57.4 percent).

The CEC said the lowest voter turnout of registered voters was in Tbilisi, with 37.3 percent.

People were less active in today’s election where voter turnout reached 43.31 percent compared to the Presidential Election in 2012 where 46.6 percent of registered voters took part in the elections.
