The Georgian President attended the inauguration ceremony of Ukraine's newly elected President Petro Poroshenko. The ceremony was attended by representatives of 56 countries with 23 presidents, among them President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili.
The oath taking ceremony was held in the country's highest legislative body.
After the inauguration, President Margvelashvili said Ukraine's new president spoke about his country's territorial integrity, population well-being and Euro integration.
"Many highly important moments were underlined in his speech including Ukraine's territorial integrity and returning Crimea as a part of the country," Margvelashvili said.
"It was the European choice of this country and [he called] on Ukrainians to continue peaceful co-existence and ensure Ukraine remains a unified state," Margvelashvili stated.
After the oath taking ceremony Giorgi Margvelashvili and Petro Poroshenko met at the Sofia Kievskaya Palace where the two presidents discussed the perspectives of deepening cooperation between Georgia and Ukraine. President Margvelashvili invited the newly elected president of Ukraine to visit Georgia.
Earlier today Georgia's President met Ukraine's Prime Minister Arsniy Yatsenyuk in Kiev and discussed the necessity of deepening bilateral cooperation between Georgia and Ukraine.
President Margvelashvili thanked Ukraine's Government for supporting the UN resolution adopted on June 5. PM Yatsenyuk also thanked the Georgian President for supporting Ukraine's territorial integrity.
Following the meeting with PM Yeatsenyuk, President Margvelashvili went to Euromaidan where he paid tribute to the men and women who died during the Ukrainian conflict.
"We came to Maidan and paid tribute to the heroes who died here among whom are Georgians as well. We expressed our support to the Ukranian people and for the very successful presidential elections," Margvelashvili said.
President Margvelashvili left for Ukraine yesterday with a Georgian delegation.
