Georgian soldiers back from Afghanistan

295 Georgian soldiers returned home from Afghanistan. According to the Georgian Defense Ministry, military servicemen of the Batumi light infantry battalion were greeted in the airport by the Deputy Ministers Mikheil Darchiashvili and Giorgi Gegechkori, as well as the Chief of Joint Staff General-Mayor Vakhtang Kapanadze.
"I want to thank each one of the soldiers. Their efforts are highly appreciated by our American and European partners. I also want to congratulate their families and loved ones on the safe return of our boys, said Mikheil Darchiashvili.
According to General-Mayor Kapanadze, two battalions are getting ready for the rotation replacement.
Batumi light infantry battalion has completed the ISAF mission in the Helmand province. The main task of the battalion was to neutralize insurgent forces, to support the development of local government and national security forces, to control the security zones and to cooperate with US Marines.
A leading American Marine has taken over a top military post in Afghanistan, and gained leadership over a Georgian Battalion in Afghanistan.
More than 100 Georgian soldiers and 14 US military servicemen conducted a clearing operation in the village of North Muhamabad in Afghanistan’s Helmand Province in the framework of the International Security Assistance Force.
The first group of soldiers serving in the Special Mountain Battalion of the Georgian Armed Forces has returned home from Afghanistan without suffering any casualties.
