Only 5 thousand GEL is left in the Presidential Reserve Fund (PRF) that is the state emergency fund of Georgia while the total budget of it is 10 million GEL, said Nodar Khaduri, the Finance Ministry of Georgia. Khaduri accused President Mikheil Saakashvili of wasting the money.
"The funds are allocated for the students attending Masters degree programmes abroad while there are some other important priorities in the country where we could spend the money. In a few days we will elect a new president and the Presidential Reserve Fund will be nearly empty, Khaduri said.
PirWeli, the local news agency, revealed the documents that the Presidential scholarship was granted primarily to those applicants who were affiliated with United National Movement (UNM) party and public servants.
The Presidents Administration confirms the fact says that the President has the right to allocate money for scholarships.
According to the Presidential decree made on March 26, 2013, the Presidential Reserve Fund would finance tuition fees and the additional expenses of those Georgian students selected through competition. The President of Georgia was to define the commission membership.
