Decider: “'The Trader' On Netflix: See The Documentary Short That Swept Sundance“

Filmmaker Tamta Gabrichidze's award-winning documentary The Trader is receiving further critical acclaim following its Sundance Film Festival prize-winning screening last month.

This time the 23-minute short has been in focus of the Decider online platform, dedicated to entertainment media available for streaming on the web.

The website's reviewer Jade Budowski notes how the documentary's "premise is disarmingly simple, but within a few minutes, it becomes clear that there is a lot lurking beneath the surface".

[W]hat really makes The Trader special are the people that we encounter along Gela’s journey. Gabrichidze beautifully captures the people that live here", says the author of the review.

Noting the diverse and fascinating types of characters encountered throughout the Georgian countryside by the film's principal protagonist, the Decider piece also tells cinema enthusiasts "every moment feels like it’s unfolding naturally" in Gabrichidze's work.

 There are few images as joyous as when three small rosy-cheeked children run up to try to catch bubbles, and few things as devastating as a lonely old woman with no money or potatoes desperately attempts to negotiate for a grater that she 'needs'", points out Budowski's look at the film.

The Decider review follows the selection of The Trader by the Netflix global cinema streaming platform earlier this month.
