Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday discussed “positive” economic trends during his meeting with a mission from the International Monetary Fund in Tbilisi.
Budget execution and midterm domestic projections were discussed at the meeting, the Government Administration said.
The sides noted that “correct and consistent” fiscal policies of the country’s Government had ensured “positive results in all sectors” despite the pandemic and the “current geopolitical situation”.
In comments about macroeconomic trends, the officials noted Georgia had maintained its economic growth rate, with figures reaching 7.5 percent in 2023 and 5.8 percent in January 2024.
Attention was also placed on the importance and role of Georgia being granted the European Union membership candidacy status, and reforms planned in management of public finances.
Natia Turnava, the Acting Governor of the National Bank of Georgia, on Monday met with a mission from the International Monetary Fund visiting Georgia to discuss the domestic monetary policy and financial stability.
Georgian Finance Minister Lasha Khutsishvili on Monday hosted a mission of the International Monetary Fund on a visit to Georgia for consultations with the country’s authorities, to discuss macroeconomic position of the country as well as fiscal and monetary policies of its Government.
The International Monetary Fund on Thursday announced the completion of the second review under the Stand-By Arrangement with Georgia, with the process making about $40 million in support available to the country.
Natia Turnava, the Acting Governor of the National Bank of Georgia, on Wednesday said the issue of resumption of the suspended IMF-supported Stand-By Arrangement for Georgia could “advance in the coming months”.
