The State Security Service on Thursday said its professionals had charged one individual for commercial bribery.

The body said its investigation found the Director of the No.1 Polyclinic in the city of Rustavi, located south-east of the Georgian capital Tbilisi, and a doctor at the same clinic had created a false health certificate for a citizen of Egypt.

The document claimed the individual had “various non-existent illnesses”, the Service said, to prevent the individual from being deported from the country after the expiration of their residence permit, in exchange for $2,000.

It also added the investigation was being carried out by the Anti-Corruption Agency of the Service, with the crime punishable by imprisonment between four and six years.
