The United States Embassy in Georgia on Wednesday announced it was donating X-ray equipment worth $13 million to the country’s Revenue Service to help enhance border security in the country.
The announcement was made by Ambassador Robin Dunnigan and the Revenue Service Chief Levan Kakava.
The Embassy said Dunnigan also expressed appreciation for the “unwavering efforts” of the Service in combating sanctions evasion and illicit trade.
Robin Dunnigan, the United States Ambassador to Georgia, on Wednesday commended the “genuine dedication” of the Georgian Government to its partnership with Washington for combating terrorism.
Sanctions officials from the European Union, the United Kingdom and the United States, who were on a visit to Georgia this week, on Wednesday highlighted they had been “convinced” that the country’s Government was “seriously” determined not to allow the circumvention of sanctions imposed on Russia for its invasion of Ukraine.
Georgia's Ministry of Internal Affairs on Friday said the Special Purpose Aviation Division of its Border Police had received an Airbus H145 helicopter designated for firefighting and mountain rescue operations.
The United States Department of State's Country Reports on Terrorism for 2022 has highlighted Georgia's “robust engagement” in counterterrorism efforts, portraying the nation as a stalwart partner in global security.
